Fall 2007
As a duo, Eshbaugh and Elliot Wolf have played together for more than 13 years. In 1995 going by the name, Faith, they recorded a ten-song CD entitled, Acrobats and Harlequins. They spent two
years playing clubs and coffeehouses supporting that release. Acrobats and Harlequins received local radio airplay, most notably on
WXPN in Philadelphia.
In 1999 as Faith they self-released a fourteen-song CD entitled, Lovestruck. Response to the CD material at
performances was very strong, and just as important, reaction to Lovestruck from those who purchased it exceeded
the band's highest hopes. Faith performed in clubs and coffeehouses from New York to Maryland in support of the CD. Selections
from Lovestruck received radio airplay from WXPN in Philadelphia and WSTW in Delaware. In addition, the CD was featured
on a number of internet broadcasts and internet stations. The CD is available from select retailers, at CDBaby.com , from Napster,
Apple iTunes, Rhapsody, and
Audio Lunchbox and
has been purchased all over the world.
Relationshifts, the first CD under the name Rose Parade was released in 2002 and also garnered radio airplay and internet plays, including WXPN and WSTW.
Like Lovestruck the CD is available from CDBaby.com , Napster,
Apple iTunes, Rhapsody and
Audio Lunchbox and also has been sold in Asia and Europe as well as North America.
Relationshifts was recorded primarily at Target Studio in Elkton, Maryland, the same studio they used for
Lovestruck, with two songs recorded in Queen Anne Studio in Pennsylvania. Relationshifts takes a somewhat more electric turn than the two predecessors. Both musicians intended to turn up the volume on
this CD since the beginning of the first recording session and from the opening chords you can hear they've succeeded. Where their previous release was mostly a collection of love songs, the second CD looks at relationships from a more
rational perspective. The themes more deeply investigate the psychological games involved, the roles we play, and the breaking of rules and spirit. But, there are still
high points where love can overcome boundaries and scale mountains, or where a parent and child can dance and laugh in the moonlight. Relationshifts was well received and garnered good reviews from as far away as Japan
where it made a top twenty list for the year's releases.
After a year of supporting the Relationshifts CD, Elliot took some time off. During that time Gary gathered
together a new group of musicians to fully augment the live show to a 5-piece band. Elliot returned two years later and the live band grew to six people.
Recording for a new release is under way and is expected to be completed sometime in 2008. A new single Beautiful Girl is done and should be sent to
radio stations before the end of 2007. Most of the songs are being recorded and produced by the band in Queen Anne Studio, but a few songs were recorded at Target Studios in the past year.
The first songs recorded are a mix of organic and electronic instruments and are reflective of the band's desire to draw upon their wide range of styles and influences.
During the 90's and early 00's Eshbaugh worked on recordings with other Philadelphia area artists as a producer and session musician. In the spring of 2004 he was the music director for the independent film,
The Drunkard, and composed and recorded original music for the film. The film was based on an Irish short story and Gary's original music for the film
incorporated traditional Irish folk instruments and was very influenced by Irish folk music. The Drunkard appeared in a number of film festival nationally after making
its debut in West Chester, PA in late 2004. This was his second stint as a musical director for a film and showed his ability to stetch to other musical genres. His first
film score was based more in electric rock and one of the songs from the film, Light of Day, opens Relationshifts. His two televison scores
were comprised of electronic music. The first was written with Sean Hopkins and was the catalyst for the original Stranger To Stranger. The second
was right at the end of the band's time together with their second lineup.
Gary Eshbaugh was the lead singer of Philadelphia's alternative rock band Stranger To Stranger from the mid-eighties to
the early nineties. During that time his songs appeared nationally on college radio charts and received strong rotation on some of the more commercial and influential
stations such as WHFS in Annapolis, MD and WXPN in Philadelphia. The Child in Me, in particular, gained national commercial exposure without the benefit of
a record label. The band enjoyed a strong following inside and outside of the beltway and there were many great nights at the legendary 9:30 Club in D.C. and the 8X10 Club in Baltimore.
Gary has appeared on bills with Modern English, They Might Be Giants, John Cale, and Richard Lloyd of Television and Matthew Sweet fame. Shortly before the band
stopped working together they composed the soundtrack for an emmy award winning short documentary.
